Abstract

The critical temperatures of the mixed spin-2 and spin-7/2 Ising ferrimagnetic system with two crystal-field interactions, DA for spin-2 and DB for spin-7/2, are investigated in the absence of an external magnetic field by using the mean-field theory based on Bogoliubov inequality for the free energy. The ground-state phase diagram is constructed. The phase diagrams of the critical temperatures are obtained in the temperature-anisotropy plane and the thermal variation of the sublattice magnetizations is investigated in detail. Besides the second-order phase transition lines, two types of the first-order lines; one ending at tricritical points and the other ending at isolated critical points, are found
