Study of Some Physiochemical Characteristics of Groundwater in Dafniya, Zliten City, Libya

This research aimed to assess some physical and chemical parameters of groundwater in the Dafniya area of Zliten municipality, also comparing the obtained results with others in surrounding area according to Libyan and WHO standards. Groundwater samples were collected from different seven wells of depth from 100 to 340 m that chosen randomly in February 2025. These samples were subjected to systematic analysis using standard methods and procedures. Physical and chemical parameters of the samples that were determined in this study are pH, specific gravity, viscosity, electric conductivity (EC), total dissolved solids (TDS), sulfides, nitrates and ferrum. The results showed that the groundwater from the wells is characterized by high color units, and the concentration of sulfates and iron exceeded the permissible limits set by the Libyan standard specifications for drinking water. Meanwhile, nitrates were within the permissible limits in all wells. However, the acidity, total dissolved salts, and total hardness were higher than the permissible limits in the Libyan standard specifications for drinking water. The specific gravity and viscosity of samples were found within permitted values.
