Strategic environmental analysis using the (SWOT) model in higher education institutions Application to the Alasmarya Islamic University / Zliten – Libya

Abstract

This study aims to identify the importance of applying the SWOT analysis model when starting to build the strategic plan for any organization, starting with the first step, which is the strategic environmental analysis of this organization, and the scientific and practical steps and foundations that this includes, starting with the environmental analysis. The internal factors are represented by the strengths and weaknesses that characterize the organization, as well as the total opportunities and threats that express the elements of the external environment. This comes as a foundation for building a strategic plan that enables the organization to achieve its vision, mission, values, and desired goals in all efficiency and effectiveness, and on sound scientific foundations. Accordingly, this study was prepared, which was entitled Strategic Environmental Analysis Using the SWOT Model in Higher Education Institutions, applied to Asmariya University. It aimed to reveal the extent of the impact of the surrounding environment on the organization under study with regard to all environmental variables, whether internal or external. Represented in all the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats that have an effective and direct impact on the survival, growth and development of this organization. The researcher used the descriptive analytical method, with the SWOT model method, in this study to analyze the strengths and weaknesses, opportunities and threats, while preparing a questionnaire that was distributed to the total study sample, which numbered (60) individuals, of which (57) were subjected to study and analysis. The researcher reached a number of results, the most important of which is that the most important strengths are that the university under study has developed college branches in a number of Libyan cities, and special study halls for females, which is a competitive advantage over its counterparts in other universities. However, the most important weaknesses are the low The level of communication with other institutions and organizations at the internal or external level to solve the problems and crises that the university under study may be exposed to, as well as the failure to keep pace with globalization and successive developments, with the lack of qualified and trained personnel to carry out the tasks to the fullest extent. This study also showed that one of the most important opportunities is What helps the university achieve its goals is the national interest in applying quality standards and continuous development in the field of higher education. Considering that it is an important requirement at the internal and external levels, the university also enjoys a degree of independence in making decisions, considering that it is a university specializing in Sharia and applied sciences. It has also been shown that one of the most important challenges facing the university under study is the weakness of keeping pace with rapid technological developments, in addition to that. The low level of administrative organization undertakes the task of carrying out work, solving problems, and confronting crises according to sound scientific foundations.
