Abstract

This study is spots light on the Punic Tessellatum that had utilized to ornament of Punic pavements in Carthage in the 5th century BC. Moreover, the artistic influence features of this sort of the architectural garnish that had effected on the Punic and Greek colonies' pavements in the Mediterranean Sea since the fourth and forward to the 1st centuries BC. Furthermore, to reveal how far their technical and religious Punic features as well as the artistic development that had connected to the Punic transmitted in Carthage and in their colonies in central Mediterranean in Sicily's island cities in South of Italy peninsula, Lpqy and Sbrat'n in Libya in North Africa. The aim of study shown up the artistic role of Punic Tessellatum in Carthage in the Mosaic art in the ancient world since the Fifth and forward to the Second century BC, including the Hellenistic Age that had  a remarkably development. In addition, how far this kind of technique influence had reflected whether direct or indirect on the civilian neighborhood and the Eastern Hellenistic in the Mediterranean Sea, as well as the synchronous ones. Especially the Roman who had no a previous architectural knowledge with this sort of ornament technique that became later a common pavements in the Roman building in the Italy peninsula in the last quarter of the 2nd century BC.
