The Shadow economy and its impact on economic growth in Libya

Abstract

This study aims to study the phenomenon of the hidden economy in the Libyan economy, and its impact on economic growth during the study period, as well as to identify the most important reasons for the emergence and growth of the size of the hidden economy, and the most important problems and difficulties related to measuring the hidden economy .This study relied on the analytical descriptive approach to reach the objectives of the study, and relied also on the inductive approach through the use of the simple numbers analysis model.The study reached several results, the most important is the decrease in the percentage of the hidden economy in non - oil GDP during the first decade of the third millennium as a result of the measures taken by the Central Bank to eliminate the parallel market, also, the increase in the percentage of the hidden economy to record levels after 2011 with an annual growth rate of 13% of the volume of non-oil GDP activities as a result of the events the country went  through .
