استهدف هذا العمل وصف التركيب المعدني لرمال الشاطئ على طول ساحل البحر الأبيض المتوسط الممتد من بنغازي إلى بن جواد، شمال شرق ليبيا. أشارت الاختبارات والصور المجهرية إلى وجود وفرة من الكربونات، الكوارتز، الفلسبار، والتبخر. المعادن الثقيلة المكتشفة هي الزركون، التورمالين، بيستاكيت، هورنبليندي، العقيق، المونازيت، الروتيل، تيتانيت، أوجيت، البيوتيت، الكيانيت، الكرومين إسبنيل، المغنتيت، إلمنيت، و غوثيت. تشير الكربونات إلى وجود فرق في عمر الرواسب؛ حيث يتكون الجانبان المركزي والشرقي من الرواسب الأصغر سنا، في حين تهيمن المواد الأكبر سنا، والمعاد صياغتها وتحولها في القسم الغربي. ويمكن التعرف على ثلاث مجموعات مختلفة من الرواسب وفقا لتكوينها المعدني. رمال الشاطئ المدروسة هي الرواسب المعدنية ناضجة اعتمادا على مؤشرات ZTR.
