Abstract

This study aims to uncover the psychological and social effects that excessive use, or what is commonly referred to as addiction, of social media platforms, specifically Facebook, may have on teenagers in Algeria. This is particularly relevant as digital social media, like Facebook, has become an integral part of their daily lives, forming a routine where they document their movements, emotional states, and personal photos. However, this intensive use is likely to lead to social and psychological repercussions on users, especially teenagers, given the critical and sensitive nature of this transitional phase from childhood to adulthood, marked by psychological, social, and cognitive changes.In our study, we adopted a descriptive-analytical approach, considering it the most appropriate, and utilized a questionnaire as a tool to gather the necessary information. One of the key findings of our study is that Facebook addiction has various psychological effects on Algerian teenagers, including anxiety and depression, as well as social consequences such as social withdrawal. It is important to note that these findings underscore the significance of understanding and addressing the potential negative impacts of Facebook addiction on the well-being of Algerian teenagers, taking into account the unique challenges and dynamics of this transitional phase in their lives
