Representation Solutions of Damped Wave Equation of a String and a Rectangular Membrane Subject to a Restorative Force Using Maple

This paper aims to obtain the representation of solutions of vibrating problem described by damped wave equation in terms of Fourier series which helps to understand thoroughly these solutions. The motion of an elastic fixed ends string and a stretched elastic rectangular membrane which are subjected to a restorative force proportional to velocity has been investigated. The role of the initial displacement has been discussed and the numerical solutions are then given by using Maple program [6]. Furthermore, For the sake of illustrations, the vibrations obtained by using the initial displacement in one and two dimensions have been plotted, respectively
