The Archaeological Landscape of Wadi Cinyps (Kaa’m) Through Survey Study Data

Abstract

The Wadi Cinyps (Kaa’m) region is one of the most important historical and archaeological areas in Libya, as it contains many archaeological landmarks that testify to the depth of its  civilizational role through out the ages. However, the area has not been the subject of any research or survey study regarding its archaeological landscape, which served as an important motivation for conducting archaeological surveys to document and record the archaeological sites along the banks of Wadi Kaa’m. Consequently, this study will be of particular importance in filling the gap in descriptive and spatial information about the archaeological sites. It will also serve as a source of data, reports, and information , through which in depth research studies can be conducted later , as well as setting effective policies and plans to preserve , protect , and manage  archaeological sites in the Wadi Kaa’m area. The study included a survay and documentation of the archaeological sites along the banks of Wadi Kaa’m in the area extending from the mouth of Wadi Kaa’m on the sea coast to the earthen dam in the south, a distance of approximately 20 km along the length of the valley. A total of 42 archaeological sites were recorded and documented, with photographic documentation provided for each site. Additionally, the survey allowed for the assessment of the condition of the recorded sites.
