Linguistic Intelligence and Its Relation to Attitudes Toward Learning English Among a Sample of High School Students in the Al-Khums Education District

Abstract

      The present study aimed to investigate the relationship between linguistic intelligence and attitudes towards learning English among secondary school students and to examine the effect of gender on these variables. The study sample consisted of 91 male and female secondary school students. The researcher adopted a descriptive correlational approach in this study. Data was collected using a linguistic intelligence scale and an attitude towards learning English scale developed by the researcher. The results revealed a positive correlation between linguistic intelligence and attitudes towards learning English among the sample members. There were statistically significant differences between males and females on the attitude towards learning English scale, in favor of females. No differences were found on the linguistic intelligence scale. The researcher recommended developing English language teaching programs that take into account the relationship between linguistic intelligence and attitudes, and designing motivational programs for males to increase their interest in learning English.
