Rainfall Fluctuation and its Impact on Agriculture in Zliten Area During The Second Half of The Twentieth Century

Abstract

The rain element is one of the most important elements of the climate affecting agriculture in the world, especially those societies that witnessed late economic growth, those societies in which rain-fed agriculture was the basis for their growth and stability, and among these societies in which this influence emerged during the first half of the twentieth century is the Zliten region, as It went through periods of drought that affected this sector, which led to the need of the region and the country in general for international assistance through the United Nations, and this fluctuation also had a role in the migration of a number of the population to other areas with abundant water. The research sheds light on that period by analyzing the nature of this fluctuation based on rain data issued by one of the climate sites on the international network, and what was reached from what was written about agriculture in that period or what was reported to us in terms of news. The size of the rain fluctuation and its effects on the region, using the historical approach and the descriptive and analytical approach. The research also aims to verify the hypothesis that the succession of drought years and their succession are more than the succession of rainy years during the first half of the twentieth century.
