This research deals with the factor of coherence and consistency in the contemporary poem. And it examines the elements that contribute to the structural unity of the text, whether at the level of small units or at the level of the structures which make up the text, employing the achievements of the science of the text, and contemporary theories whose concern is reading the literary text. On this basis, the research had two aims. The first aim concerned with the study of cohesion and coherence that are achieved at the level of parts, and another aim concerned with the study of textual cohesion and harmony that are achieved at the level of minor structures, which in turn lead to the formation of the major structures. If cohesion at the level of parts requires logical coherence on the level of meaning in the parts, the coherence on the level of structures requires greater harmony at the level of meaning. Because this harmony is what stems from it the general meaning that is the text subject. In the light of the above mentioned aims on which the research was based, some results were reached. The most important result was that the text represents a network inhabited by the innumerable elements that intertwine between them forming its textual coherence. And this coherence was created by multiple elements including; phonemic, lexical and grammatical links and solidarity and synergy that are achieved at the level of minor structures and this is at the level of construction. But at the level of meaning, it is noted that the smaller units, and all the structures at the level of the text, are mutually supportive in order to achieve the goal of the text which is the message, in addition to the emotional and psychological factor that govern the entire artistic work from its beginning to its end, and this, in turn, makes the text represents a coherent organic unit which contributes to its meaning. Thus, it can be noted that the general meaning, and the influence factor in the text, are not achieved at the level of parts or small units, nor is it reducing a minor structure at the expense of another. Rather, it is achieved by the combination of all the elements and their fusion in the crucible of the text.
