About the Journal

Journal of Marine Sciences and Environmental Technologies (JMSET) is an international scientific peer-reviewed journal, which is published semi-annually (June-December) by the Faculty of Marine Resources at Alasmarya Islamic University (AIU)-Libya. It bears the International Standard Serial Number ISSN for the printed version (2413-5267) and for the electronic version (2706-9966), and it also bears the legal deposit in the National Book House in Benghazi No. (402/2019).

Journal history:

This Journal was launched in 2015 AD based on the decision of the Council of Alasmarya Islamic University (AIU) (253 in 2015 AD). The journal aims to provide an opportunity for researchers in all countries of the world to publish their scientific production, which is characterized by originality and innovation, in the fields of marine sciences and environmental sciences, and engineering, while adhering to the ethics of scientific research and scientific methodology. The journal publishes scientific materials that have not been previously published in Arabic or English and include: original applied and theoretical research, scientific reviews, research reports, short scientific correspondence, reports of conferences, meetings, seminars, and scientific forums, summaries of scientific theses, and other scientific activities that fall within the fields of Marine and Environmental Sciences and engineering.

Publication Fields:

A) Marine Sciences & Engineering;

The journal draws from diverse topics within the major disciplines of coastal and blue water oceanography (biological, chemical, geological, and physical) as well as subjects in ecology, conservation, and technological developments with the marine environment as the unifying theme. Also, all branches of engineering related to marine such as (offshore & marine exploration, mechanical, naval architecture, and corrosion,... etc.).

B) Environmental Technologies;

JMSET covers all sorts of research in the field of environmental technologies (management, assessment, monitoring, and treatment) of the atmospheric environment, the aquatic environment, municipal solid waste,…etc.

Review and Evaluation Process:

  • The JMSET uses a double-blind review process in which the peer reviewers’ names are not disclosed to the authors or vice versa.
  • Before submitting the articles for review the managing editor will evaluate the article's suitability for the journal (language, readership, and format), and ensure the completeness of the submission.
  • The article submitted to the journal is examined for the detection of originality via (Plagiarism Detection Software) in order to improve the quality of academic writing.
  • If the article is suitable for the journal, the managing editor will choose two reviewers among researchers working in a similar field and listed in the journal database. The selection of reviewers is based on several factors: expertise, reputation, and our own previous experience with a reviewer’s characteristics.
  • The editorial board will request a minimum of two independent reviews but can if necessary request additional evaluations, particularly if two reviewers have severely contradictory opinions on a particular submission.
  • The author/s will be informed about the outcome of the evaluation of their article after the completion of the arbitration within a period not exceeding two months from the date of receipt of the research which complies with the conditions of publication in the journal.
  • The authors adhere to the reviewer's comments in the amended version and send a detailed report to the journal showing the areas of the amendment, and if he does not take some of the observations, it is stipulated that they should not be agreed upon by the reviewers and that the corresponding author expresses his point of view in not taking them into account.
  • In the event that the corresponding author completes the required modifications if any, and the article is accepted by the editorial board, the article is referred for technical review and then to the final output unit.
  • Articles eligible for publication are subject to the journal's policy on their arrangement and time of publication.

Article processing and publishing fees:

There is no fee when submitting or evaluating the article, and the journal operates under an open-access publishing system that does not include any publishing fee for the article, and the article will be available immediately and free of charge when it is published in the journal and in perpetuity.
